And, if the question is simple, requiring neither an appointment nor a time-sensitive response, what could be the harm? In my own practice, and while precepting trainees, I have watched electronic conversations continue when someone just needs to pick up the phone. Doctors are not immune to this type of behavior.
I like the precept that things should be as easy to get out of as they were to get into, although I want to use that more as a parameter than a restriction in expanding the discussion to healthcare. It should be as easy for a patient’s appointment to start on time as it was to make the appointment.
