This April, in honor of Autism Acceptance Month , we celebrate the incredible contributions of autistic nurses who bring compassion, dedication, and unique perspectives to the world of healthcare. According to the CDC , around 2% of adults in the U.S. are autisticand that number is growing as more people receive diagnoses later in life. With greater awareness comes greater acceptance, and more autistic adults are finding strength and clarity in understanding who they are.
The picture below shows how a treatment can make patients better. I see four ways. The drug/procedure may work biologically. The Voltaire effect relates to his quote saying that the art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease. AKA: natural history. Placebo effects can also contribute. I will show you an elegant experiment demonstrating how positive energy and words can add to improvement.

The promise of virtual care is no longer theoretical and is now a critical solution to many of healthcare’s most urgent challenges. Yet many healthcare leaders remain unsure how to build a business case for investment and launching the right program at the right time can be the difference between value and failure. With potential down-sizing of Medicaid on the short-term U.S. political horizon, a fascinating poll found that most people identifying as Republican would not favor cuts to Medicaid. What fascinates me about this survey, published earlier this week, is that it was conducted by FabrizioWard , a polling firm that has often been used by President Trump.

For me, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) approaches a miracle. My brain thinks: how in the world does a doctor place a valve in the aorta, then into the stenotic valve, squish the calcified old valve and land a new one. Watching the procedure on x ray does not do the miracle justice. Miracle number one is the valve stays in place. Miracle number two is that the debris-traveling-north does not cause stroke in every patient.
As a Radiography Technologist , you will use specialized equipment to capture images of the inside of the body. These help the doctors understand what is happening inside the patient’s body and help them diagnose problems. Since radiography deals with radiation, the patients and technologists must be kept safe. Low exposure to Radiation is helpful for medical imaging, but it can be harmful if protective measures are not taken.

I’ve already gotten pretty bored reading about AI in medicine. So many of the articles cover the same ground, either breathlessly celebrating AI’s promise or bemoaning the brave new world on the horizon. This article from Dr. Mendoza made me feel embarrassed that I have not even considered this angle. Adam Cifu This Substack is reader-supported.

By JEFF GOLDSMITH Jeff wrote this article for Hospitals & Health Networks in the July 5, 1998 edition. He republished it this week on his substack calling it a 27th anniversary edition. Its an enlightening piece, but as you read it please ask yourself. What, if anything, has changed, and did anything get better?– Matthew Holt It is hard not to be impressed by the sweep of change, both in the capabilities of the American health system and in health care organizations, over the last 20 y
If you haven’t drank water today, this is your reminder. Water is the body’s vital resource, keeping our organs healthy and functioning. However, it can be hard to take a sip when nurses’ schedules keep them busy. Nurses stay active and moving, so drinking water to hydrate is important to avoid dehydration. Even mild dehydration can hurt nurses’ work performance by reducing their cognitive function and concentration.
How does effective data management impact trial outcomes? Clinical trials are the cornerstone of modern medicine, allowing us to evaluate new treatments, ensure patient safety, and gain regulatory approval for therapies that can change lives. Behind the scenes, one element often makes or breaks a study: clinical trial data management. Without accurate, timely, and secure data collection and analysis, even the most promising intervention may fail to demonstrate its true value.

Not every week, but most weeks I read social media posts about getting your heart checked. It could be lifesaving. The pleas often start with a coronary artery calcium scan—which could then lead to a coronary angiogram with possible stent placement. It’s a compelling story. Heart disease is a leading killer. Sudden cardiac death or massive heart attack can be the first symptom.
Burnout is a concept all too familiar with many Practice Managers, and a poll in the forum has revealed the true extent amongst those in management roles. A recent discussion thread asked if they were experiencing burnout and if so, what help they were receiving.
